Green Gram / Moong Dal
Green gram, also known as mung in Hindi, is the seed of the Vigna radiata plant, which is indigenous to India. It is also referred to as golden gram, green soy, and mung bean (s). It is known as munggo or monggo in the Philippines. A small, spherical dried bean (approximately 18 inch in diameter) with a thick outer skin that can be green, brown, or black. When peeled, the inside of the bean reveals a golden yellow or mustard-colored, soft-textured flesh with a somewhat sweet flavour that is tender when cooked and easily digestible. The bean is known as yellow mung, yellow split mung, or moong dal in India, where it is frequently used to produce curries and a culinary dish known as Dal. The mung bean is one of many species that have recently been transferred from the genus Phaseolus to Vigna, yet it is still commonly referred to as Phaseolus aureus or Phaseolus radiatus. All of them are the same plant.
