Pigeon Pea / Toor Dal
The pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) is a Fabaceae family perennial legume. Its seeds have become a popular meal in Asia, Africa, and Latin America since their domestication in the Indian subcontinent at least 3,500 years ago. It is widely consumed in South Asia and is an important source of protein for the Indian subcontinent’s people. It is the principal complement to rice or roti (flatbread) and is regarded as a staple dish across India.
